Course Description
This 4-hour training program provides employees with foundational knowledge of toxicological hazards in the workplace. Participants will learn to identify, mitigate, and respond to chemical hazards while ensuring compliance with OSHA standards.
- Explains the fundamentals of toxicology and how hazardous chemicals interact with the human body in workplace and environmental exposure situations.
- Covers the classification of hazardous chemicals based on toxicological properties and reviews common chemical hazards encountered in occupational environments.
- Reviews OSHA Hazard Communication requirements and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for chemical labeling, hazard classification, safety data communication, and employee right-to-know standards.
- Explains OSHA permissible exposure limits (PELs), NIOSH recommended exposure limits (RELs), and the importance of monitoring airborne contaminants to maintain safe workplace exposure conditions.
- Covers the signs and symptoms associated with chemical overexposure including acute and chronic health effects caused by toxicological hazards in workplace environments.
- Focuses on exposure prevention and mitigation strategies including safe handling practices, hazard controls, personal protective equipment (PPE), workplace monitoring, and emergency response procedures for chemical incidents.
