Course Description
This training provides essential knowledge on OSHA’s Logger Safety Standards (29 CFR 1910.266) to protect workers in one of the most hazardous industries. Participants will learn about personal protective equipment (PPE), machine safety, emergency preparedness, and safe logging practices to reduce risks and ensure compliance.
Importance of Logger Safety:
Overview of logging hazards and OSHA’s mandatory safety practices
Safe operations for timber, pulpwood, poles, and other logging activities
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Required PPE: hard hats, eye and hearing protection, logging boots, and high-visibility clothing
Cut-resistant leg protection for chain saw operators
Machine and Vehicle Safety:
Protective structures (ROPS/FOPS) and seat belt requirements for logging machines
Maintenance and guarding of brakes, exhaust, and moving parts
First Aid and Emergency Preparedness:
OSHA Appendix A and B requirements for first-aid kits and trained personnel
Emergency communication systems and transport plans
Environmental and Work Area Safety:
Stopping work during hazardous weather conditions
Managing danger trees and maintaining clear signaling systems
Hand and Portable Powered Tools Safety:
Chain saw safety features and proper maintenance
Training and inspection requirements for tools
Tree Harvesting Operations:
Safe manual felling techniques and awareness of tree hazards
