Course Description
This course is designed for individuals responsible for leading emergency response operations. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage incidents, coordinate resources, maintain operational control, and ensure responder and public safety during emergency situations.
- Explains the responsibilities, authority, and operational role of the Incident Commander (IC) during emergency response incidents, including establishing and maintaining command throughout an event.
- Covers the principles and structure of the Incident Command System (ICS) and how ICS is used to organize, coordinate, and manage emergency response operations involving multiple agencies and stakeholders.
- Reviews emergency response operational procedures including the development and implementation of Incident Action Plans (IAPs), resource management, personnel coordination, and emergency communications.
- Explains hazard identification, risk assessment, and responder safety practices including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and decontamination procedures during hazardous incidents.
- Covers leadership and decision-making techniques used to support effective incident management, maintain operational objectives, and lead response personnel during high-pressure emergency situations.
- Reviews post-incident responsibilities including incident debriefings, operational evaluations, documentation procedures, and the use of lessons learned to improve future emergency response performance.
