Course Description
This advanced-level course focuses on the management of major and complex incidents, providing participants with the skills needed to lead multi-agency coordination efforts and area command operations. The course also includes specialized training on mercury spill response, equipping participants with the knowledge required to safely assess, contain, monitor, and decontaminate mercury spill incidents.
- Reinforces key Incident Command System (ICS) principles and reviews the roles and responsibilities of command and general staff personnel during large-scale and complex emergency incidents.
- Covers advanced incident management strategies used to coordinate multi-agency response operations, manage large-scale emergencies, and oversee resource allocation across multiple jurisdictions.
- Explains the purpose, structure, and operational functions of Area Command systems used to supervise multiple incident management teams and coordinate complex incident operations.
- Reviews multi-agency coordination practices including interagency collaboration, unified decision-making, communication systems, and coordinated resource management during emergency response operations.
- Covers mercury spill response procedures including incident assessment, hazard recognition, spill size-up, and the safe use of mercury spill response equipment and cleanup materials.
- Explains the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), mercury monitoring devices, and decontamination procedures required to safely manage mercury contamination incidents.
- Reviews respiratory protection requirements and emphasizes the importance of proper respiratory protection training prior to conducting mercury spill cleanup and hazardous material response operations.
