Course Description
This course builds on the foundational concepts introduced in ICS 100 by providing advanced instruction on the Incident Command System (ICS). Participants will develop leadership, management, and operational coordination skills necessary for managing small to moderately complex incidents and supporting higher-level emergency response responsibilities.
- Explains the role of leadership in incident management, including establishing objectives, managing personnel, delegating authority, and maintaining operational control during emergency response activities.
- Covers the structure and responsibilities of ICS functional areas including command, operations, planning, logistics, and finance/administration while emphasizing field-level resource management and operational coordination.
- Reviews effective briefing techniques and communication practices used to support clear information sharing, operational coordination, and decision-making during emergency incidents.
- Explains how ICS organizational structures can be adapted and scaled to meet the operational needs of small to moderately complex incidents while maintaining effective resource management and incident control.
- Covers the process for transferring command during an incident, including procedures used to maintain continuity, operational awareness, and leadership effectiveness throughout command transitions.
