Course Program
Course Description
This training provides an introduction to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. Participants will learn to interpret GHS-compliant Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labels, understand hazard classifications, and comply with OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200).
Introduction to GHS:
Overview of GHS and its purpose in workplace safety
Who needs GHS training and why it’s important
GHS Hazard Classes and Categories:
Physical hazards (e.g., flammability, reactivity)
Health hazards (e.g., toxicity, carcinogenicity)
Environmental hazards (optional under GHS)
GHS Label Elements:
Signal words (e.g., Danger, Warning)
GHS symbols and their meanings
Hazard statements and precautionary statements
Labeling requirements for supply and transport
Safety Data Sheets (SDS):
GHS-compliant 16-section SDS format
How to read and interpret SDS information
Other Labeling Systems:
Comparison of GHS with HMIS (Hazardous Materials Identification System) and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) labeling systems
