Course Description
This course focuses on the critical incipient stage of firefighting, where rapid decision-making, situational awareness, and tactical skills are essential to control fires and save lives. Participants will engage in live burn exercises to practice real-world firefighting techniques and survival strategies.
- Understand the incipient stage of firefighting, from dispatch to initial attack
- Learn the 7 fundamental steps of firefighting (Lloyd Layman Model): Size-up, Call for help, Rescue, Cover exposures, Locate the fire, Control the fire, Overhaul
- Develop essential skills for rapid size-up, risk/benefit analysis, and tactical ventilation
- Master fire ground survival techniques, including Mayday prevention and self-rescue (GRAB LIVES mnemonic)
- Practice live burn scenarios to enhance situational awareness and tactical execution
- Explore the importance of teamwork, communication, and crew accountability under stress
- Understand the real-life impact of quick, decisive action in reducing fire damage and saving lives
- Build mental resilience and physical readiness for high-risk environments
