Course Description
This course provides firefighters with the knowledge and skills to safely manage traffic at emergency scenes. Participants will learn proper flagging techniques, equipment use, and best practices to protect emergency responders and the public while ensuring efficient traffic flow.
- Understand the importance of traffic control in reducing firefighter injuries and fatalities
- Learn the roles and responsibilities of firefighter flaggers, including monitoring and controlling traffic flow
- Master flagging procedures, including positioning, signaling, and coordinating with law enforcement
- Explore essential safety gear and equipment, such as STOP/SLOW paddles, high-visibility apparel, and portable lighting
- Address challenges unique to emergency scenes, including rapidly changing conditions and low visibility
- Review best practices and training standards, including OSHA and MUTCD guidelines
- Develop incident-specific traffic control plans and practice scenario-based drills
- Analyze real-world case studies to understand the impact of proper flagging on emergency scene safety
