Course Description
This course provides cleaners and staff with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves from bloodborne pathogens in the workplace. Participants will learn about exposure risks, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), spill cleanup procedures, and steps to take in the event of exposure.
- Understand what bloodborne pathogens are and the diseases they cause (e.g., Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV)
- Identify transmission routes, including direct and indirect contact, respiratory droplets, and vector-borne exposure
- Recognize workplace exposure risks during spill cleanup, waste handling, and surface disinfection
- Develop and implement an Exposure Control Plan for healthcare and cleaning environments
- Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Follow step-by-step procedures for blood spill cleanup and surface disinfection
- Take immediate and appropriate actions in the event of exposure
- Understand vaccination and evaluation protocols for Hepatitis B and other pathogens
- Maintain compliance with training, information sharing, and record-keeping requirements
