Course Description

This 24-hour Hazardous Materials course provides essential training for responding to and cleaning up fentanyl and opioid-related incidents. Participants will learn to assess risks, use appropriate PPE, follow decontamination procedures, and ensure safety during emergency response and cleanup operations.

  • Recognize the forms and quantities of fentanyl and other opioids, and understand their potential exposure routes
  • Use drug test kits to identify suspected substances
  • Select, use, and maintain appropriate PPE, including Level A protection and supplied air respirators, while understanding their limitations
  • Identify signs and symptoms of opioid exposure in workers and implement emergency procedures
  • Learn evidence preservation techniques and the safe use of neutralizing solutions, including associated risks
  • Master communication protocols, personnel decontamination, and disposal techniques for fentanyl-contaminated materials
  • Understand when and how to seek medical assistance during response operations
  • Respond to varying levels of fentanyl-related incidents:
  • Minimal Risk: Situations with suspected fentanyl presence but no visible products
  • Moderate Risk: Situations with small amounts of visible fentanyl products
  • High Risk: Situations with large amounts of visible fentanyl products or liquid fentanyl
