Course Description

This course introduces the Incident Command System (ICS), focusing on its structure, functions, and application for managing emergencies. Participants will learn to implement ICS principles, execute emergency response plans, and address hazards associated with chemical protective clothing and decontamination procedures.

  • Explains the purpose, structure, and application of the Incident Command System (ICS) for managing emergency incidents ranging from small-scale events to complex multi-agency operations.
  • Covers how ICS integrates facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures, and communication systems to support organized and effective incident management.
  • Reviews the primary ICS functional areas including command, operations, planning, logistics, and finance/administration along with coordination between government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations.
  • Explains the implementation of employer-specific and local emergency response plans within the ICS framework to improve coordination, communication, and operational effectiveness during emergencies.
  • Covers hazards and operational risks associated with emergency response activities, including working in chemical protective clothing and maintaining responder safety during hazardous incidents.
  • Reviews proper decontamination procedures and safety practices designed to reduce contamination risks and protect emergency responders during hazardous material and emergency response operations.
