Course Description
This 24-hour course provides comprehensive training for workers at Treatment, Storage, and Disposal (TSD) facilities regulated under RCRA. Participants will learn to recognize hazards, implement emergency response plans, and comply with OSHA’s HAZWOPER standards to ensure safety during hazardous substance releases.
- Understand the HAZWOPER standard and its application to TSD facilities
- Learn how the standard protects workers involved in hazardous waste cleanup and emergency response
- Operations involving hazardous wastes at TSD sites regulated by EPA (40 CFR parts 264 & 265)
- Emergency response requirements for releases or threats of hazardous substances
- Develop and implement a written Emergency Response Plan (ERP)
- Define worker roles and responsibilities during emergencies
- Ensure proper training and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Receive initial and refresher training on hazard recognition and emergency procedures
- Understand medical surveillance programs to monitor health effects from hazardous exposures
- Conduct site characterization to identify hazards before emergency operations
- Establish site control zones to protect workers and prevent contamination spread
- Perform immediate hazard assessment and containment
- Execute safe evacuation or shelter-in-place procedures
- Coordinate with local emergency services and regulatory agencies
- Follow incident reporting and documentation protocols
- Learn the importance of compliance in preventing injuries, fatalities, and environmental contamination
