Course Description
This course provides laboratory personnel with essential training on bloodborne pathogens and biological safety. Participants will learn how to minimize exposure risks, implement universal precautions, and respond effectively to incidents involving hazardous chemicals or infectious biological agents.
- Understand what bloodborne pathogens are and the diseases they cause (e.g., Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV)
- Recognize occupational exposure risks in laboratory settings, including sharps injuries and contact with contaminated materials
- Apply universal precautions to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious agents
- Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Implement engineering and work practice controls to reduce risks
- Access and utilize Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for hazardous substances
- Follow proper procedures for hazardous waste disposal
- Respond to exposure incidents with immediate actions and post-exposure protocols
- Understand the importance of Hepatitis B vaccination and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP)
